I can get sparkly cleans to perfect crunch and then great distortion (if needed) from this amp. I then spent the next ten years going through different setups trying to find that sound in a gig friendly amp but I only really tried Marshall's and Fender's.Īfter years of frustration from trying amps with combinations of mods/speakers and OD pedals I finally heard a guitarist using a Vox AC15 in a pub gig and THAT was the sound I'd been looking for and since purchasing it I've never looked back. I started off with a solid state Laney that had a crunch mode and I fell in love with that sound from the moment I first heard it. Vox ac15c1 series#
All models in the Custom Series offer a switchable 8/16 ohm output jack for powering an external speaker cabinet when you need to speak with a little more authority using this jack will mute the internal speakers. The AC15C1 combo makes use of 3 x 12AX7 preamp tubes and uses pair of EL84 tubes to drive a single 12" Celestion G12M Greenback. All Custom Series amps can use the VOX VFS2 footswitch, allowing you to turn the Reverb and Tremolo effects on and off as you continue to play. A warm Spring Reverb is also included on all Custom Series amps, adding spaciousness to the sound. Both the speed and the depth are adjustable, allowing you to generate just the sound you want. You can sweeten the sound of your Custom Series amplifier using the VOX Classic Tremolo effect. By balancing the individual and Master volumes, the Custom Series can deliver everything from a clean VOX "chimey" sound to a powerful overdriven tone. The Master Volume control works in conjunction with the individual volumes of each channel to create just the right degree of gain-staging. The Tone Cut control operates in the power stage rather than the preamp stage, allowing an additional degree of tone-shaping.

Jacks for extension speakers and for an optional remote foot switch are mounted on the upper back panel. Vox has decided to not offer this amp with the Vox/Celestion Blue Alnico speaker at this time. Removing the upper rear back panel exposes three ECC83 and two EL-84 tubes for easy exchange (see photo at left).Ī 16 ohm 12" Celestion Greenback speaker is mounted in the open backed enclosure. Tube replacement no longers requires that the amp chassis be removed from the cabinet. The power amp has two cathode biased EL-84 tubes producing 15 watts RMS.
Vox ac15c1 upgrade#
North Coast Music offers a 13 ply baltic birch baffle board upgrade for the AC15C1 (black vinyl amp version only) as an extra cost option. The AC15C1 cabinet is completely constructed of MDF (medium density fiber board, or particle board). The AC15C1 also has tremolo and a spring based reverb.
The first channel incorporates the preamp circuitry from the original AC-30 "Normal" amp while the second channel featured the Vox AC-30 "Top Boost" circuit. The AC15C1 replaced the AC15CC1 in January 2010.
